Andy has a swing and a miss with Charles. Ah well. Better luck next time.
The pages are looking a little different these days since my scanner died a death. The back up just doesn't have the resolution so things are a little more pixely and I don't know what to do about it.
Unfortunately the computer doesn't see it as a scanner. No idea why they don't talk to each other. It has a usb port on it though so I plug in a memory stick and hit scan. I choose picture instead of document and then hit black and white (because the old scanner scanned in lower resolution when it did colour)
It is a royal pain having to move the documents across via memory stick. Especially since it saves them as PDFs...I don't know if there's a setting I can use to do a better job but I have spent an hour or so kn it.
I think black and white would be the cause. its forcing two colour, black and white, and no inbetween. if you force it in a photo editor you see the same thing happen, but you have control of the resolution usually so its not an issue when downscaled. if greyscale is a setting that would likely work better.
i dont know what model youre dealing with, but googling suggests the filetype and other options could come in the step after selecting usb scan and before selecting confirm.
Thanks steak. I will look for an option to change the resolution again at every step. I notice the black and white option isn't true black and white, it's a greyscale. I think it probably could scan at higher resolution if it would send the signals to the computer...I don't know what the deal is. I can select it to use as a printer and it works for that.
unless a TWAIN driver is missing or something. Theres a generic scanning app I use called NAPS2, perhaps see if that picks up anything https://www.naps2.com/
Dude. You are the best. I'll download this and give it a whirl when I have a sec. To be honest that might be the best it can do, though. Mum had this printer when I was in high school, 20 years ago.
